More info
Gunvor Grönvik (1912–1955) studied at the Drawing School of the Finnish Art Society from 1934 to 1939, at the same time as Tove Jansson, Tapio Tapiovaara, Eva Cederström and other well-known names. Grönvik is best known for her self-portraits and Helsinki-themed landscapes, which is why this painting diversifies our image of her work. The painting is also special highlight of the collections of the Academy of Fine Arts as it is our oldest oil painting. The majority of the works from the first half of the 20th century come from printmaking portfolios, which is why Grönvik's painting is a very distinctive part of the collection.
